The definition of an influencer is a person who has:

  • the power to affect the purchasing decisions of others because of his or her authority, knowledge, position, or relationship with his or her audience.

or/and

  • a following in a distinct niche, with whom he or she actively engages. The size of the following depends on the size of his/her topic of the niche.

But what can we classify these people as?

Besides  micro, macro and mega influencers you can also have Advocates, Referrers and Loyalists.

Mega Influencers are more famous than influential but they aren’t necessarily   experts on the subject matter BUT they are able to provide a lot of reach with every post. Macro influencers are mostly people who have rissen to fame through the internet instead of traditional media. They mostly have between 100.000 people as a following and a million followers. Think your average Youtubers.

Next up we have the Micro influencers. Micro influencers have a fanbase of between the 1000 and 10000 BUT are more knowledgable about their niche. They usually stick to one topic and are therefore a great way to reach this niche.

Lets look at the the advocate next. The advocate is someone who speaks highly of your brand and remains brand loyal. They will promote and defend your brand to the end of the earth.

After the advocate we get the Referrer. The Referrer is someone who sends traffic towards your website or product. You are the brand they will recommend (or as their first choice or as their only choice). Lastly on our list we can find the loyalist. The loyalists are the people who have swayed away from the marketing mix to just be your faithful customer.

All these types of influencers, big and small, can contribute to your succes. Its just up to youth find out which type is right for your business or service.
