The Building Blocks To Our Future.
Together with an architectural firm, we did a test to enhance one their projects with a digital twin. We used an existing 3D model, made in Google Sketch-up pro, and placed it into the Unity game engine. Our goal was to see if it was possible to render the environment in real time 3D using WebGL. Our im was to test our production pipeline and see what challenges would come up as we implemented the Sketch-up model. We deliberately accepted this challenge with limited budget and time as we wanted to have a realistic feeling of the impact and technical challenges. And this challenge has proven to be a big success!
As a result it is now possible to walk around in the model and closely examine all of the elements within the room. And this all within your common web browser without any addition plugins! Because the model is now available within the game engine it is only a small step to take to Virtual or Augmented Reality. The use of a game engine has allowed us to incorporate more interactive elements, and it is possible to display information and interchangeable models in the future.
