In our series “Meet The Member” we want to give Apollo a face by showing you a member. This will be done weekly and today we want to introduce Arjan, our resident programmer.
Could you please introduce yourself and tell us your day to day activities.
My name is Arjan Berger and I am a game/app developer at Apollo Journey. During the day I am mostly working on different projects for android and IOS systems but I also work on VR projects.
How did you find Apollo?
When searching for a job, I scoured the internet for sites that offered job applications. One of those sites was Linkedin and it was there that I was able to find a recruiter that gave me a couple of options. One of them was Apollo Journey and long story short: now I’m sitting here, talking about how I found Apollo.
What do you like most about Apollo?
I like that I get the opportunity to develop myself and my skills, Together with the other people at the office we create a group in where it is fun and easy to work. I get to work on a wide variety of projects on which my creativity can be set loose. This and more make it a great work environment where I love to be a part of.
What is your favourite digital innovation in the last 5 years?
Of course there is a lot to choose from, because technology is evolving at an accelerated pace. Firstly I would like to mention the ever growing world of VR. Working with VR here at Apollo has surely shown me the capabilities of working with, for example, the Oculus Quest. Secondly, since I am using it a lot, I have to mention the PlayStation 4 Pro with 4K resolutions. The quality of graphics it is capable of, the speed in which it works and more are some of the reasons I play on it quite a bit in my spare time.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I love to play soccer and have been doing so for 17 years now (minus a 2 year gap in which I played baseball). When I’m not doing any form of exercising, I often play games, both for fun and to improve my own knowledge (like looking at how and why a designer has made it or how I would be programming it). After all that i also like to work on some of my own projects or hang out with friends.
What would you want to tell anybody reading this?
Like I said before, when searching for a job I roamed the internet looking for recruiters. It took me a long time to get where I am now but if you keep working on yourself and what you do, you will eventually find a company where you can spend your days doing what you love to do. This makes your day to day so much easier.
