Covid-19 has taken a toll on our entire society. Schools are closed and some companies can’t operate at this moment. Us over at Apollo have chosen to keep working, but at home.

I would therefore like to give you a diary of myself, a marketing manager, during a ‘normal’ working day at Apollo.

While my alarm normally is set for 07.45 when starting at 9 I can now set my alarm nearly an hour later. My day starts with a breakfast to get the synapses going.

At 9:30 we start with our daily standup. In which we normally got together physically we now get together on discord to discuss what we are going to do. This gives us the opportunity to interject when running into problems and help each other out. After this informal meeting we all go our separate ways.

My day normally starts with half an hour social analysis. I check out what is going on in the world and try and find inspiration for articles to write. After which I start working on said articles. This normally starts by just starting to write and whatever flows out of me. Next I work on scripts for something thats in the pipeline, maybe research new forms of social media, look into new forms of interactive media or just interesting snippets to share to our socials.

Meetings (albeit it being virtual) or assignments for clients will always come in between so it is important that I stay agile with my workflow. My break is mostly used to have a quick bite and walk outside for a bit. It resets my mind and also makes me think about stuff in another way.

While my workday normally ends at between 17:00 and 17:30 It kind of depends now. I sometimes forget to take breaks, wake up way too early so already start at 8 instead of at 9. But will always get the job done.

Does working at home work for me? A bit. It is a lot harder to stay focused for long periods at a time BUT my initial work sprint in the morning is way more productive.

Let’s talk again soon,

Patrick
